Ke Huy Quan Education:

Quan was born on August 20, 1971 in Saigon, South Vietnam to Chinese-descent parents. He has eight brothers and sisters.

Quan attended Mount Gleason Junior High in Tujunga, California, and Alhambra High in Alhambra, California. Quan graduated from the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts in 1999, where he produced and shot the multi-award-winning short film Voodoo, written and directed by his friend Gregg Bishop.

Ke Huy Quan Career:

At the age of 12, Quan debuted as Harrison Ford’s sidekick Short Round in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. The casting director interviewed students at Castelar Elementary School, including his younger brother.

In 1985, Quan co-starred in The Goonies as inventor Richard “Data” Wang, one of the eponymous group of children. In the 1986 Taiwanese film It Takes a Thief, he played a pickpocket orphan. He appeared in the Japanese film Passengers in 1987.

He starred as Sam in the short-lived TV series Together We Stand (1986-1987) and as Jasper Kwong in the 1990s sitcom Head of the Class.

He appeared in the 1991 film Breathing Fire and had a minor role in Encino Man (1992). He starred in the Mandarin-language TV show The Big Eunuch and the Little Carpenter in 1993.

Quan found it difficult to find acting work in the United States as an adult. He eventually gave up acting and enrolled in the University of Southern California’s film programme. He assisted Yuen once more as a stunt choreographer for The One (2001). Quan worked on Wong Kar-2046 wai’s as an assistant director (2004).

The success of Crazy Rich Asians (2018) inspired Quan to return to acting in 2018. Daniels began casting for their film Everything Everywhere All At Once the same year (2022). Quan was announced as a cast member of Everything Everywhere All at Once in January 2020. The film was released in March 2022 to widespread acclaim, with Quan’s performance receiving universal acclaim and media attention, eventually earning him a Golden Globe, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and an Academy Award for his role.

In September 2019, Quan was cast as a supporting actor in the Netflix film Finding Ohana (2021). Quan approached director Jude Weng after overhearing her describe the film as “The Goonies meets Indiana Jones,” in which Quan had previously appeared.

In February 2022, it was announced that he had joined the cast of the Disney+ television adaptation of American Born Chinese.

Quan was announced to have joined the cast of the second season of the Marvel Cinematic Universe series Loki for Disney+ in September 2022.

On March 12, 2023, Quan became the first Vietnam-born actor in history to win an Oscar.
